Performance, conformance, reliability and durability of abrasives are the goals of the abrasive manufacturers who are associate members of FEPA, the Federation of European Producers of Abrasives. These targets have been supported for many years with user-orientated literature to improve the knowledge of applications and safety among production management, industrial workers and private users.

FEPA is proud to present the new FEPA Safety Code for abrasive wheels. It covers safety aspects in transportation, storage, use and disposal of abrasive wheels. I hope this booklet will find the attention of those who sell or apply abrasive wheels all over Europe and in other parts of our global world.

The FEPA Safety Code will ensure that the care and the attention that is applied to the manufacture of abrasive wheels is supported by an equal professionalism in the application of these products.

This publication would not have been possible without the support of many colleagues from the abrasive industry. Especially I would like to thank Geoff Clarke, Ingemar Mellgren and Dr. Ulrich Wünsche for their work, which has been completed with outstanding effort in a very short time, and in great depth.

Jan-Volkmar Runge, President of FEPA, July 2001
